What is this place?
Acid Pop is a tribute to Caustic Soda, the best podcast of all time. Toren Atkinson, Joel Fulgham, and Kevin Leeson courageously delved into the territory of nightmares for seven years. When they hung up their mics for a well-deserved retirement from the world of horrible tales, the world (or anyway, I) was left bereft. Without Caustic Soda, how would the world learn about the dark underbelly of [insert lighthearted topic here] or the hilarious dangers of [insert occupation]? So, for everyone, like me, who's memorized the entire Caustic Soda library, I decided I would have to journey into the dark. On Acid Pop we’ll endeavor to explore subjects yet untouched by Caustic Soda, and while I’ve tweaked the formula a little, I hope that Acid Pop can carry the torch Caustic Soda lit into unknown realms.
If you’re new to all this and haven’t listened to Caustic Soda, I can’t recommend it enough. They have enough episodes to make sure you never sleep soundly again. But, if you’re ready for more, we’re here for you.
Who Are You People?
Adam:
After spending some years in the Navy, Adam’s life, his lover and his lady were the sea. Then he filed the appropriate separation paperwork. Now the sea and he are seeing separate people/ecosystems. Currently residing in the desert, Adam now toils away at finishing up a bachelor’s degree in biology, the culmination of growing up with a morbid fascination of diseases and parasites. The day fast approaches where he will be mailed a vindicating and very expensive piece of paper that says “I kinda know what I’m talking about”.
Andy:
If you’re looking for a guy who knows how to accidentally screw up his audio quality, Andy’s your man. Currently living in one of your lesser gambling cities, Andy is at this moment studying to become a teacher, because somebody needs to teach your kids these awful things. If you need a quote for the back of his autobiography, that quote is, “I’ll get that quote to you eventually.”
Kelly:
Of all the members of the Acid Pop Team, Kelly is the least likely to cut off your hand for cash. And really, isn't that all you need to know about her? She works as a procedure writer, freelances as a game writer, and in her spare time, she writes fiction. In other words, the girl needs a hobby. Kelly is particularly fascinated by the human mind, so expect to hear her hosting episodes on the weird things our brains get up to when we're not paying attention.
Sean:
It was my idea to start this project, so if you can blame me for any adverse effects you suffer from as a result of listening to stories about creatures dying painfully. I’m a bit of an oddball. I don’t have a lot in the way of emotions, motivations, or fears. While I generally have a sunny disposition and try to be polite and courteous to everyone I meet, I can’t help but be fascinated by the darkest aspects of everything. When not exploring the stickiest corners of the world, I work professionally as a 3D modeler and make video games in what spare time I have. I live with my wife who I adore, my cat who tolerates me, and my tortoise who ignores me. I’m always on the lookout for horrible stories, so if you have a good one, be sure to send it my way.
Where do you find this stuff?
I'm always on the lookout for fascinating (and dark) stories. Mostly non-fiction. Here's some books, shows, and podcasts that I have enjoyed thoroughly.
